This post is part of a series of interviews with Lady Boss hostesses.
Meg Skill of Nutmeg Cake Design is co-hosting our March Lady Boss at her shared studio space in Philadelphia (with studiomate Danielle Rivera of Danfredo Photos + Films!). We're sending the registration link out via email at 1p today (March 2), so sign up for our email list if you haven't already!
We've been lucky enough to collaborate with Meg on a few projects — and we're always blown away with her creativity, I-can-totally-make-that-happen attitude, and the quality of every. single. thing. she. makes. Rumor has it she might bake up something to share at Lady Boss, and our fingers are crossed (no pressure, Meg!). If you haven't met Meg, it's time you do!

LET'S GET TO KNOW THIS LADY:
Q: Coffee or tea?
A: Chai latte with almond milk, please! No coffee for this gal.
Q: Guilty pleasure?
A: Constantly redecorating our apartment in my brain and filling my virtual West Elm cart….but never actually pulling the trigger on purchasing a darn thing.
Q: What are you listening to lately?
A: Music-wise, I'm currently super into Future Islands…and always Beach House. [Editor's note: guess that's what happens when you share a studio space! Danielle said Future Islands, too!]
Q: Who are you crushing on?
A: Stevi Auble (@heytherecupcake_) is forever my cake girl crush. Closer to home, the photography of my boyfriend Billy (@billycress) is a tremendous daily inspiration to me.
Q: Current mantra?
A: Work hard (real hard) and good things will happen. Also, amongst that hard work, try to remember to take the time to be kind to myself.

WHAT MAKES HER A BOSS:
Q: What do you do?
A: Nutmeg Cake Design creates custom cakes, cupcakes and cookies to coordinate with and elevate all events. We truly thrive on connecting with our clients and producing a dessert that is equally satisfying to the eye, heart and taste buds. We like to think that we're in the business of creating the best kind of memories — delicious ones.
Q: Tell us about a project you recently wrapped
A: In December, I hosted my first workshop — a lesson in holiday cookie decorating. I really enjoyed it, received some great feedback, and I look forward to giving it another try this spring. As someone that has gained her skill set entirely through tutorials and online workshops, I always promised myself that I would share what I've learned and give back.
Q: What makes you go to work each day?
A: Clients come to us at some of the most special times of their lives — weddings, pregnancies, birthdays, etc. I feel an immense responsiblity to add something very meaningful to these occasions. Working hard to produce the right design and executing it to the best of my ability is always worth it when I see their reaction to the cake.
Q: Tell us about a dream project or client.
A: I would love a bride that is looking for a dark, dramatic cake. Something with deep, rich colored sugar flowers and copper. Or certainly a project that allows for my most favorite and under requested technique — hand painting. Someone please let me paint pretty things on your cake!
Q: What made you decide to host a Lady Boss?
A: I've formed some really wonderful relationships with some killer ladies as a result of Lady Boss events. I love how supportive, honest and generous this community is. Since a majority of us often work in isolation, it's so comforting to know there is a forum to bounce ideas off of and gain some feedback. I'm so excited to welcome a group into our space and continue the conversation and good vibes.

CONNECT WITH THIS LADY BOSS:
P.S. Nutmeg Cake Design and Danfredo Photo + Films' studio space (Camp Confetti) is home of two more killer businesses: Confetti & Co. and Kate Farley Design. They all offered to host together but we decided to spread it out into two Lady Boss events — so we'll hopefully have another one there before long!
